Menswear Trends to Watch For in 2018

February 28, 2018 No comments

Trends can be controversial. Some people say trends fade, others believe that the best ones never go out of style. We agree with the latter. If something makes you feel good when you wear it, then it never truly fades away or goes out of style.

With that being said, there are still new fashion trends for men to discover and add to your repertoire. How will you choose among so many options? Between the trends seen on the runway and everyday street style, it can be a lot to take in.

This Spring, we’ve selected our favorite men’s fashion trends for you that are sure to become a classic:

Vertical Stripes

We predict you’ll be seeing a lot of stripes this season, specifically vertical ones. These are a great alternative for the classic horizontal stripe and can be seen on all types of clothing, from jackets to t-shirts and everything in between. We love how vertical stripes look on these non-iron dress shirts because it gives them a vintage feel. Wear one of these shirts with a nice pair of dress pants and you’ll feel unstoppable.

To avoid looking like you just walked out of a 90’s sitcom, try to stay away from heavily patterned or thick striped shirts. That’s the wrong kind of vintage look that you’re going for.

Corduroy Pants

Corduroy has had a less than flattering reputation in past years, but this season it’s becoming the fabrication everyone is wearing. If you want to make a big statement with this trend, corduroy pants are just what you need. These navy and brown pairs are made for a classic fit, not too slim or baggy, for just the right look.

So what do you wear with corduroy pants? We like wearing them with a turtleneck and a coat layered on top. In warmer months, aim for a shirt with a similar weight as the pants to keep your outfit proportional.

Just like vertical stripes, check patterns are nothing new by any means. A nice checkered shirt is a timeless look, but be aware that the wrong print can be less than flattering. The best way to choose check patterns that look good on you is to always aim for clean, crisp lines that are not too busy. The simpler, the better. Additionally, make sure the rest of your look is toned down to make the focal point your patterned shirt.

Textured Loafers

If you’re looking to upgrade your dress shoe collection, try out a textured material instead of plain leather. It can add a little something to your look that could be missing without being overbearing. If you’re wary to try something too out there, start small with a material like suede and work your way up to a more bold texture. We love both of these styles pictured above by Aldo to get you started. If you’re feeling really adventurous, try an out of the box color instead of the typical black or brown shoe.
