A Man Of Style

There are some people who are born with an inherent sense of style. For the rest of us, it’s something we must learn and develop over time.

Ok, so what are some of the things I can do to put me on the path to becoming a man of style?

Here are a few things to remember that will help…

Be Confident In What You Wear

Confidence is the key element to looking good. Sure, you may have just purchased a brand new suit, but how do you feel wearing it? If you don’t feel comfortable in your clothes it will show.

A man of style knows who he is, how he dresses and is confident in what he wears.

Make Sure That Everything You Wear Fits

The way a garment fits and looks on you is one of the most important things to remember. No piece of ill-fitting clothing, no matter how much you spent on it, will make you look as good as when you are wearing something that actually fits you well….this applies to all of your clothing.

From your denim jeans, to your t-shirts, your sport coats, your suits and your shirts… everything should fit in a way that complements you and your body type.

Know Your Measurements

Chest, Waist, Inseam, Neck, Sleeve, Shoe…Know your measurements!

Go get measured by your tailor (Yes, you need to have a go-to tailor…see below) and keep the measurements stored on your phone so you have them handy when you are out shopping. If you don’t know your measurements, you will end up buying clothes that don’t fit.

Find A Good Tailor

Even when you know your measurements, it’s still hard to buy something off-the-rack that will fit you perfectly. Why? Because every man is built differently.

Many times, a tailor will be the key to getting your clothing to fit just right. Altering clothing you’ve just bought, whether you need a pant hem lengthened, a shirt sleeve shortened, a jacket taken in, is easier when you find a tailor who knows you and what you want.

Embrace The fact That Less Is More

Most times less, is just less, however with clothes, less is more. There is no benefit to having a closet filled with clothes you will never wear, actually it is a big waste of space. A well edited closet allows you to get more from less because dressing well is all about keeping things timeless and investing in quality over quantity. So go to your closet, if you haven't worn something in the last 8 to 12 months and it is clean, and in good condition, put it in a bag and drop it off at your nearest clothing drop.

Don’t Be Afraid To Spend Money On Quality

Invest in quality, because you absolutely get what you pay for.

A timeless, well-made piece of clothing is going to last longer than one that is poorly made, and will save you money in the long run. How? because the better it's made, the better it performs, and the more years you will be able to wear it....just like your ENRO shirts.

Don’t Be Obsessed With Brands

There is nothing wrong with having a favorite brand or brands, as-long-as it’s one that is known for quality, timeless style and fits you well. With that being said, don’t become obsessed with only wearing brand names and never go out dressed head to toe in one brand. Some of my favorite pieces of clothing are not from a big brand.

Build A Wardrobe Around Your Lifestyle

A man of style knows how he dresses and how to build a wardrobe around it.

Owning a bunch of suits and sportcoats, and wearing them in a setting that is more casual, doesn’t make sense, especially if you don’t feel comfortable when you are wearing them, however, mastering the smart/office casual look, and building your wardrobe around that lifestyle, does make sense.

Define your style and build a wardrobe around that lifestyle.

Some Clothes Are Strictly For To The Gym

I know that the Athleisure look is in, but unless you are actually on your way to or coming from the gym, the workout clothes should stay out home.

Don’t head out of your house in your workout clothes, take a few minutes to get properly dressed. Sweat pants to run an errand? Please, buy some comfortable khakis instead…which leads to the last thing to remember….

You Can Never Be Overdressed

Well, I guess you can be overdressed at the beach or in the shower.....all other times, don’t be afraid to be the best dressed man in the room. Hey, you never know who you’re going to meet.
